it came out Tuesday, I was home Thursday. Could have come home Wednesday, should have come home Friday. Spending the time moseying from couch to chair to couch. Pain is almost non-existent, but still sore. Weakness leaving the body, right?

Recipient (Jane Heller) has gone from a creatinine of over 6, down to 1. She looks 10yrs younger, and even sounds stronger. She is supposed to be coming home today. Graduated law school on Monday, new kidney on Tuesday..sounds line her life is firing on all cylinders right now.

I can think of NO good reason NOT to do this again if given the chance. The emotional kick in the pants Wednesday night, when I finally realized what I had done and what effect it had on her...wow! All that for giving up a spare? Wish I had 3 right now.

I hope it all works out, I know once you are ready, the waiting can be frustrating. Who are you donating to? I'm happy to hear this blog helped, I hesitated at first to share the story. But other blogs helped me as well. It is definitely survivable and I feel terrific just 3.5 months out of surgery. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!

Hopefully going in tomorrow for the 7day pre-op appointment. A scheduling snafu MAY cause it to be pushed to July 3rd, but we'll see tomorrow. I'm only doing it for the weight loss side of the donation ;-) LOL! We'll see what happens tomorrow...or late June, depending on what the Gods have in store for us. Reading your posts lets me know it's survivable....now I just gotta man up and muddle through.

So happpppy to hear you are getting time to rest and enjoying time at home. And that Uncle Larry is able to get back to a new normal routine. Sure he doesn't know what to do with all that energy and time on his hands. Still keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. Hope to hear you are back to normal very soon as well.

I am so glad everything went so well with Larry. I know he feels better than he has in a long time. Still praying for you both and will conitnue. Take care of you and do what you are supposed to do so you can be back at work again. It will get quite boring without you there. :)

Thanks Lesley! I was starting to feel a little guilty about my harsh comments but you are right. Sometimes I think we are afraid to tell how we feel or what we need. But if we do speak up, it just makes for a better experience for the next person.

So glad that you are both doing wonderful! And, I am very sorry you had to deal with insensitive nurses! I remember having a similar experience when Grant had his open heart surgery (age 4 months). He was clearly in a lot of pain... whimpering and unable to even cry..., but several nurses told us he was maxed out on his pain med. After speaking with the doctors, they said yes, he definitely needed more/different pain meds. Pain control is all part of the recovery. You should definitely be blunt with your surgeon about your experience (although many surgeons don't have the best bedside manner either). You could look on Vandy's webiste. There should be some kind of patient review you could do. Vandy has actually called us before (post procedure) and asked us to participate in a review of our services from them. So I know there is something like that out there.

Kuddos to you and your uncle! Keep us posted!

I went from crying while reading your post, to laughing at your thank you for your left kidney. You are an inspiration to everyone. Thank you Kurt also. Kurt, you are making a big sacrifice here as well in letting go of part of the person you love and cherish so she can selflessly give her kidney to Larry. You both are givers. Thank you to you both. May God pour out his love and blessings on your lives. I pray that Larry will grow strong and go and conquer the challenges given to him in life.
Love, David Thomas
